What is the SWIR?
SWIR means the wavelength of the light in 1000-1700nm range. Due to the silicon sensor of common use industry camera is limited in 1000nm, so to get SWIR image need to use special SWIR camera. InGaAs sensor is mainly sensor in SWIR camera. SWIR camera using InGaAs sensor can cover typical SWIR band.
Why need to use SWIR?
Compared with visible light, SWIR has longer wavelength, more penetration features. It also interacts differently with atomic structures, which opens up some new and unique imaging possibilities for machine vision applications. When the image is in the SWIR spectrum, it will present a different image from the visible light. Features that are difficult to identify in the visible light may be clearly visible in SWIR.
Product detection and classification is one of most promising machine vision applications by SWIR.
LOTS AUTOMATION HAS,
1050nm/ 1200nm/1300nm/1450nm/1550nm/1600nm/1650nm and so on SWIR light,it can cover every band required for daily detection which use SWIR.
Below is the SWIR applications for reference, (SWIR light need to matched with SWIR camera to use together)
1.Photovoltaic cell MAKE point inspection
The images presented by the near infrared and short infrared for different object and different absorption characteristics of the spectrum can better improve the contrast effect of the inspection area. As below picture shown.

NIR and shortwave infrared light have different wavelength, different penetrability and reflection, to distinguish the changes in the arrangement of molecules in an object, to get the different contrast in different wavelength.

NIR do not have penetration effect, SWIR have good penetration, so that the impurities contrast clearly. As below picture shown.

Food packaging is often inspected for food integrity, Preservative present or not. In the picture below, the contrast of NIR light is not obvious, while the contrast of penetrating strong illumination of SWIR light source is greatly improved.
